THE NEOCON AGENDA ON THE UKRAINE, SYRIA, AND IRAN: LEW ROCKWELL

This thought-provoking article by Robert Parry at Lew Rockwell.com was sent to me by Mr. V.T., a regular reader, and it's worth having a close look at his thesis:

Neocons’ Ukraine-Syria-Iran Gambit

While there is much in Mr. Parry's article that deserves careful consideration, I want to draw the reader's attention to two things. The first is how geopolitics was used to split the Obama-Putin nexus:

"Though the Ukraine crisis has roots going back decades, the chronology of the recent uprising — and the neocon interest in it – meshes neatly with neocon fury over Obama and Putin working together to avert a U.S. military strike against Syria last summer and then brokering an interim nuclear agreement with Iran last fall that effectively took a U.S. bombing campaign against Iran off the table.

"With those two top Israeli priorities – U.S. military attacks on Syria and Iran – sidetracked, the American neocons began activating their influential media and political networks to counteract the Obama-Putin teamwork. The neocon wedge to splinter Obama away from Putin was driven into Ukraine.

"Operating out of neocon enclaves in the U.S. State Department and at U.S.-funded non-governmental organizations, led by the National Endowment for Democracy, neocon operatives targeted Ukraine even before the recent political unrest began shaking apart the country’s fragile ethnic and ideological cohesion."

Thus, Mr. Putin had to be "put in play":

"So, the troublesome Putin had to be put in play. And, NED’s Gershman was quick to note a key Russian vulnerability, neighboring Ukraine, where a democratically elected but corrupt president, Viktor Yanukovych, was struggling with a terrible economy and weighing whether to accept a European aid offer, which came with many austerity strings attached, or work out a more generous deal with Russia."

As Mr. Parry correctly notes, the Yankovich government in Kiev had negotiated a better financial deal with Moscow when the West pulled the plug on his regime, and staged what can only be said to be a coup, using covert operations and cut-outs. The plan has, of course, significantly backfired as the "new" Nazis in Kiev have overplayed their hand in private telephone calls(recall Ms. Tymoshenko's call to kill 8,000,000 Russians with nukes), and the subsidiary goal of de-fanging Russia's ability to project power in the region via its Black Sea Fleet failed with the Crimean referendum, which, as Mr. Putin pointed out, was clearly legal within the terms of treaty obligations.

The unsung hero in the drama, however, is President Obama.

Yes, you may quit rubbing your eyes in disbelief. Readers here know I have no love lost for the president's policies, but the fact remains, that he has held the line against the warmongers, and avoided drastic actions against Iran and Syria that would have led to an unnecessary bloodbath for both countries, and the probable high loss of American lives. Such madness would only have further weakened the American position both financially and militarily. If it be doubted that there is a real struggle going on between the Administration and the neo-con rogue element within the institutions of American government and media power, consider only that the President, in imposing sanctions, took the unprecedented step of imposing sanctions only on certain Russians and institutions. It is, of course, the move of a politician walking a tightrope, trying to appease those interests on the one hand, and to avoid open economic warfare with Russia, which holds some powerful cards should that have happened, such as a threat to dump dollars. For this, the President has been mercilessly villified in the neo-con lamestream media (principally Faux news and other networks) as being weak, and of course the media campaign to portray Mr. Putin as some sort of throwback to Stalin continues.

But the other point of the article should not be overlooked:

"On Feb. 21, in a desperate attempt to tamp down the violence, Yanukovych signed an agreement brokered by European countries. He agreed to surrender many of his powers, to hold early elections (so he could be voted out of office), and pull back the police. That last step, however, opened the way for the neo-Nazi militias to overrun government buildings and force Yanukovych to flee for his life.

"With these modern-day storm troopers controlling key buildings – and brutalizing Yanukovych supporters – a  rump Ukrainian parliament voted, in an extra-constitutional fashion, to remove Yanukovych from office. This coup-installed regime, with far-right parties controlling four ministries including defense, received immediate U.S. and European Union recognition as Ukraine’s “legitimate” government.

"As remarkable – and newsworthy – as it was that a government on the European continent included Nazis in the executive branch for the first time since World War II, the U.S. news media performed as it did before the Iraq War and during various other international crises. It essentially presented the neocon-preferred narrative and treated the presence of the neo-Nazis as some kind of urban legend."

But these groups, I am bold to suggest, are not "Neo"-Nazi at all. They represent a continuation of those front groups created by General Reinhard Gehlen's Fremde Heere Ost in the final days of World War two, front groups that were disguised as "nations in exile" and which included Byelo-Russian fronts, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian fronts, and, of course, Ukrainian groups with historical associations to Bandera and the Vlasov army of World War Two. These exilee groups, as Russ Bellant detailed in his study Old Nazis, the New Right, and the Republican Party, became prominent financial supporters of the American right during the Reagan and Bush eras. What has surfaced in Kiev, in other words, isn't "neo"-Nazi at all, it is just plain ole' Nazi, and it's high time we recognize the fact by dropping the use of the word "neo" in that respect. What has surfaced through all of the covert operations and all the coups, is our good old "friend", the Nazi International, and behind it, that old "rogue element" within the American "notional security" complex that Premier Krushchev warned about in the aftermath of the downing of Francis Gary Powers' U-2, that President Eisenhower warned about upon leaving office, that Valerian Zorin stated was behind the assassination of President Kennedy.

Fascism is Fascism, folks, and it's high time we recognize that World War Two's end did not constitute some sort of rupture, or break, either in the philosophy, or its institutional organization, history, or power.

See you on the flip side.

I may play a bit the “devil advocate” now, but I have some remarks to make:

1- Russia is an empire and as such it has both pissed off or antagonyized pretty much all her neighbours, and is a rival for other empires/big powers around the world (which obviously want to eliminate her or at least put her in a submissive position and control it).
So what is happening in Ukraine, or the way Russia is seen in eastern Europe and large parts of Far East (Japan and China too, despite some may think otherwise) is not just an occult scenario but the result of previous Russia actions too, and the real dislike, if not hate, for some people there against Russia (as entity or state especially, not necessary against common Russian people).

2- the history show us that every empire follow the same path, or cycle. It appears, rise, reach its peak, and then fall and either disapear either become a much smaller power. Russia is not invulnerable to this either.

Who are the neocons try The Knights Of The Golden Dawn the post Civil War equivalence of The Nazi International. The neocon tried staging a putsch against that well known American Bolshevik FDR before Major General Smedley Butler ratted them out. Obama mention MLK a better one would have been JFK and RFK. What has kept him alive is that is that his father came from Kenya Africa. Imagine if his ancestors like Evo Moralas came from the Americas Ekaterinburg ring a bell.

  6. basta on April 5, 2014 at 10:44 am

And just who exactly are these “neocons” who have hijacked the US government?

    Don’t answer–it’s a rhetorical question: QED.

Ray McGovern of “Veteran intelligence Professionals For Sanity” came to town last night and gave a superb lecture and talk on the current misprision of intelligence information. He explained that were it not for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs cautioning Obama to not pull the trigger on Syria before all the truly actionable intelligence had come in he would be committing another Iraq. Those two days of forbearance gave Putin time to trot out the plan to destroy Syria’s nerve agent stock. We just on the verge of “doing” Syria, but for that one man’s counsel.
McGovern’s visit was also meant to counterpoint the recent $170,000.00 paid University of Arkansas lecture by Condoleeza Rice whom McGovern of course, as a CIA intelligence analyst, thinks should be court martialed for what she did to intelligence brief leading up to the Iraq invasion.

McGovern also confirmed what a lot of us suspect – Obama’s almost wholesale abandonment of his platform stems from his fear of being assassinated or outed in his many personal transgressions by the security/intelligence apparatus around him. One of McGovern’s friends told of being at a fundraiser for Obama during which hordes of disgruntled progessives began “pinging” him for his promise breaking, and Obama finally outburst with “Look at what they did to Martin Luther King!”

So Webster disputes the first hand eyewitness account by Malcolm Muggeridge A Winter in Moscow. And no mention of the Katyn forest massacre.
I think, another smear job too cover up the genocide of Ayran nobility.

          • Robert Barricklow on April 6, 2014 at 8:38 am

            I like Webster.
Still, all sources have to be questioned.
I continually do it, as a matter of course.
I’m pleased to know, that you’ve been doing due diligence as well.

It’s clear, and you are right to point it out, that Obama has defanged the warkmakers again. He’s a failure as an American, but not a failure as a peace-preserver in the center of the world island.

  9. bdw000 on April 5, 2014 at 8:48 am

As interesting as it is, it would be nice to really “know” if your Nazi International connection in the Ukraine were real.

If the Nazi International were a functioning entity, I don’t see them openly opposing Putin’s Russia, UNLESS they were working closely with the US Government.

Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, I saw some pamphlet that was “almost” Neo-Nazi, espousing a new Berlin-Moscow alliance/hegemony.

Imagine an adept magician/puppeteer whose “sympathy for the devil” tune has been around for a long, long time. This “devil in the details” has created organizations/puppets with which, all that’s needed for “control”, is to slip his hand in the appropriate glove. A glove on one hand(zion) and a glove on the other hand(Nazi) working together; but, seemingly enemies, in the management perspective performances on the global stage.
This has been achieved through religion(s)/money(s).
There have been/and are many “gloves/puppets” to confound the viewer. In fact, this “system”, is but a “form”, whose shape – takes ubiquitous manifestations throughout space/time.
It is one but facet of deception.
An onion that no beginning & no end.

An interesting side note: Are the Bison are fleeing Yellowstone Park because of impending Supervolcano Explosion?
Or; are they, as a another story goes, running towards the magma disturbance area?

      • jedi on April 6, 2014 at 7:19 am

That is the game Robert. A rigged game where they always win. The sad part is no one knows they are just in a game, and there script has been written with there ending as soon as they sign up. The rest of us are cannon fodder. A dog eat dog world.
I felt diîsguust seeing Einstein on the cover of time…..the actor who worked at a patent office stealing and plagerizing the work of others.
The military industrial complex in a nut shell…..the bankers.

        • Robert Barricklow on April 6, 2014 at 8:46 am

          Likewise.
I can count the times my stomach churns,
as these “puppets” come upon the
          media glitzed world stages of
          virtual light-bulbs, flashing honors &
          those, just off-stage,
          behind the scenes –
          …stashing treasures.

This article is from Parry’s site, Consortium News (and others similar as you say). While Lew Rockwell features an army of columnists, Parry isn’t among them. I think there’s a ‘whoops’ in the headline here, not to detract from Dr Farrell’s excellent commentary …

    • Margaret on April 5, 2014 at 8:36 am

Hmm, that was supposed to appear as a reply to Lost’s comment at the very bottom …

  12. loisg on April 5, 2014 at 7:56 am

I totally agree with the assessment of this article and your comments concerning it. I think Obama is well aware of these naziesque elements working against the common good and is walking a tightrope, as you say. (Maybe he’ll end up winning that peace prize after all) what I don’t understand is why Putin can’t see that.

    • Don B on April 5, 2014 at 12:42 pm

Here’s a person no one knows absolutely anything about as all his records are sealed and to top it off he receives a Nobel Peace prize for being a community organizer(we think). And then he’s told to go out and earn it?? Something is wrong with this logic!!

      db

      • BetelgeuseT-1 on April 5, 2014 at 8:37 pm

Could not agree with you more Don B.
I can not imagine that Obama did not know what he was in for before he took office. That his promises had any real value at all.
The guy was handled – and groomed – from day one. Put in office by the same elite that run – or at least have very large influence over – the Nobel committee that gave him his laughable peace prize.

        The deal was simple.

You want to be the first black president of the USA, Mr Obama. Sure, we’ll make that happen, we’ll even promote (fund) you up to the hilt and onto the world stage (his peace prize).
We’ll even get you re-elected for another four years if you’ve performed according to our agenda.

But you do EXACTLY as we tell you, or else…

He’s a puppet on a string, nothing more, nothing less.
No different than the presidents before him.
The last president to go against the higher powers was JFK, and look what happened to him.
The warning has been heeded by every president since that fateful day.

The cancelled – or perhaps just postponed – attack on Syria was ordered from above, Obama was just the messenger.
Cancelled only because of the lack of international support.

The world finally starting to wake up that this alleged chemical attack by Assad was yet another false flag aimed at removing Assad from power.
This I think is the positive light that showed up in this whole sorry saga.

      • loisg on April 5, 2014 at 10:54 pm

Well, I didn’t say that he was told to do anything here. And btw there is plenty about him that is available unless you believe the hype from the right. When someone has so much animosity towards an individual then they can’t see the facts clearly whether that person being maligned is conservative, liberal, or whatever label one wishes to attach to someone.

        • justawhoaman on April 6, 2014 at 9:38 am

What hype would THAT be, loisg? The fact that he went to Columbia on a passport from Indonesia, his adopted father’s country, as a foreign student? That is, IF he went to Columbia since no one can recall every knowing him there. The hype that people born of a foreign parent (allegedly Kenya), who was never a citizen, is a threat to national security and therefore, as the Founders noted, are not eligible to be President or Vice President? The hype that he was actually a close friend of Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, sponsored by Saudis and propped up financially by Tony Rezko, that he has never explained his fraudulent social security number, that he is the first President not to show his school records (all schools or any school for that matter) The hype that when pushed, produced a totally photoshopped “birth certificate” to appease his followers. The hype that his white family were known Communists, that his mentor, Frank M. Davis, too, was a Communist and a child sexual abuser; that his “nanny” in Indonesia was a transvestite? You are right. There IS a lot known about this man and why the heck he was ever even nominated, then elected, twice, is proof only that elections are rigged in this country. He is a puppet and loving every minute of his plush life surrounded by security agents… and Valerie Jarrett.

I don’t have to be from the right to come to these conclusions. I only have to ask questions and do the research. We haven’t had a clean nominee from the left or right since… well, THAT would take even more research. At this point, probably Washington and he was put in office by his fellow aristocrats.

It probably was George who chopped down the metaphorical cherry tree and when questioned said it was true, I cannot tell a lie..
Who was the las honest president…….
Great rant, like Hitler said if you’re gonna tell a lie make sure its a really big one.
            Pretty much sums up Obama.

Like the joker said, Why so serious.

Over at shark hunters it is purported that the. Dolphin Whistler died in 63. The year of the coup. Another interesting piece is in 44 at the banker conference aka Breton Woods conference the Chinese had the second largest committee.
I guess with all the loot being divided up and all the technology being transferred in operation paperclip….a clearer picture can be developed of the games being played…….cui bono.

  15. DaphneO on April 5, 2014 at 6:00 am

I agree with all the above, but try saying that the US/NATO/Nazis are the problem to a lot of ordinary Ukrainians, and it’s like talking to a brick wall. All they see is evil, controlling Russia. I have been in contact with a relative who married a Ukrainian girl and nothing I say about there being a US sponsored coup is accepted at all. It’s all about how bad Russia is.

  16. Ramura on April 5, 2014 at 5:44 am

Say whuh? Obama getting a nod? Well, as someone who actually voted for him in 2008 but then became increasingly disheartened and dismayed as the globalist hegemony rolled on irregardless of O’s expressed intended direction, I have found it hard to find evidence that he has ANY degrees of separation from his handlers. Little signs (like the fact that we are not now in a hot war in Syria and/or Iran) give one hope. It’s hard to tell the players without a scorecard….one that “we the people” will probably never truly have access to…at least not in real time.

As always, I appreciate you Joseph for your tendency to unpack what you are reading with amazing depth and then articulate it succinctly in a larger, or more nuanced, context.

And, yes, there IS no “neo.” Just plain Nazi’s, folks…I get it. You get it. But will the populous get it before it is too late?

    • Ramura on April 5, 2014 at 5:48 am

oops. misspell. dang, and I used to be a naturally good speller, too.

      Anyway: “populace” not populous.

      😉

  17. Lost on April 5, 2014 at 5:35 am

Parry, at his website, not when one Parry article is reposted at another website, has been pretty explicit about these neoNazis being the grand children of real Ukrainian Nazis; real Nazis that as late as the 1980s the Reagan administration was employing for Ukrainian language US radio propaganda broadcasts into the Ukraine.
