MORE LINES TO THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH DISCOVERED

Many of you shared this story with me, and I have to blog about it because of all its inherently interesting possibilities for our trademark high actane speculation. In Iraq, a tablet has been recovered which contains, apparently, twenty lines from the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh, part of ancient Uruk's mythology and cosmology. Here's the story:

Epic of Gilgamesh grows by 20 lines

New clay tablet adds 20 lines to Epic of Gilgamesh

This sparks two very different lines of high octane speculation for the day, the first concerning the lines themselves, as summarized in the first article linked above:

The tablet adds new verses to the story of how Gilgamesh and Enkidu slew the forest demigod Humbaba. Gilgamesh, King of Uruk, gets the idea to kill the giant Humbaba, guardian of the Cedar Forest, home of the gods, in Tablet II. He thinks accomplishing such a feat of strength will gain him eternal fame. His wise companion (and former wild man) Enkidu tries to talk him out of it -- Humbaba was set to his task by the god Enlil -- but stubborn Gilgamesh won't budge, so Enkidu agrees to go with him on this quest. Together they overpower the giant. When the defeated Humbaba begs for mercy, offering to serve Gilgamesh forever and give him every sacred tree in the forest, Gilgamesh is moved to pity, but Enkidu's blood is up now and he exhorts his friend to go through with the original plan to kill the giant and get that eternal renown he craves. Gilgamesh cuts Humbaba's head off and then cuts down the sacred forest. The companions return to Uruk with the trophy head and lots of aromatic timber.(Emphasis added)

And then this summary from the second article linked above:

The aftermath of the heroes’ slaying of Ḫumbaba is now better preserved (300–308). The previously available text made it clear that Gilgameš and Enkidu knew, even before they killed Ḫumbaba, that what they were doing would anger the cosmic forces that governed the world, chiefly the god Enlil.
(Emphasis added)

What I find suggestive here is the possible link to the whole idea of the "cosmic war" hypothesis: a cedar forest representing "the cosmic forces that govern the world," and a combat and slaying of a giant - a very distant echo of the gigantomachy of Greek mythology - and the resulting divine displeasure from Enlil. This is intriguing, because of course, in the standard Greek, and even Old Testament view, the war with the giants was a good thing, as was their destruction. But here, the opposite moral assessment is implied.

What is more intrguing to me, however, are the implications of the discovery itself, and how it was made:

How the tablet was discovered is notable as well. Since 2011, the Sulaymaniyah Museum in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq was been paying smugglers to intercept artifacts leaving the country, no questions asked. The tablet was likely illegally excavated from the southern part of Iraq, and the museum paid the seller of this particular tablet $800 to keep it in the country.

This intrigues me because years ago, in writing about the Baghdad Museum Looting incident in the wake of the US invasion of Iraq, I speculated that there were deep, and covert agendas in play. The first was signaled by the presence of French and German archaeological teams in Saddam Hussein's Iraq, digging up and cateloging any number of priceless finds. Then there was the looting itself, which by all accounts was executed by someone with "inside knowledge," which, according to the initial reports in the German media, was carried out by people dressed in American uniforms. While everyone rushed to blame the USA for the looting, I wasn't so sure then, and I am not so sure now. If anything, the ones with the most precise intelligence of what and where to look, outside of members of Iraq's archaeological "inner circle" themselves, would have been the French and German teams that keep the field catalogues of what they were finding. Then there was the recovery of some of these stolen artifacts, mostly art works. What we did not hear about were the stolen tablets, and these, for me, constituted the real story. To this day, what was stolen, how much, and where it went, is unclear. But this new finding of portions of the Epic of Gilgamesh might be a partial clue: some of them, at least, remained in Iraq, perhaps in the hands of guardians or perhaps even in the hands of people who saw in them the literal cuneiform equivalent of gold, as an economic hedge against the coming collapse of the country.

But if that high octane speculation be true, then it equally highlights the remaining problem: where are the other tablets, who has them, and what do they contain? And I am still of the opinion that some of them are in the hands of very high players, none of them in Iraq, and that they were looking for things in them...

See you on the flip side...

    Goshawks and Barricklow,
thank you for the links. Read a bit about that case years ago. Since then run across a few similar folk. Thinking you’re gonna love reading every page Bernd Heinrich wrote.

    http://www.amazon.com/Trees-My-Forest-Bernd-Heinrich/dp/0060929421/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1444363251&sr=8-1&keywords=the+trees+in+my+forest

Been remembering a chapter lately from one of his books. He studied biology extensively (and taught). At one time walking through woods late at night he heard quite the battle of birds high up in trees. Best he could guess as crow parts fell all about was a murder of crows attacking an owl at night and the owl fighting back too successfully. He’s had quite a bit of personal experience with crows/ravens. Later he returned to the scene and submitted a different interpretation of the event from the night before. He guessed that the crows went after some other predator (probably an owl) and in the confusion in the dark tore each other apart. Doubt it was hundreds but more than a few tens of crows.

It was not a difficult scene to piece (quite literally with crow parts) together for him. Years before his decades of study, he and a friend had been chased by swarms (not flocks) of crows after trapping and capturing a hapless young crow in the woods. He described it as similar to a scene from “the Birds.” In those numbers the crows presented a viable threat to his life.

So the long way back to where I’m going: Feels like whoever is most influencing our enculturation is intent on getting the majority of us to go after ourselves as Heinrich witnessed (albeit in the dark) the crows do to each other. All thank you to the anti-epistemology we so far survive.

Might be useful to come up with a name for the meme of self decimating species and/or social structures.

    thank you,
    zdb
ps. i am loving that edit feature.

Gosh. no worries here. Redeems my faith a bit. Curious where and when Mars and Venus and other planets/comets passed close enough to exchange electrical discharges and plasma with Earth and how this bears on historical records and non-myths. And biology.

R Barricklow. HA. That hit the nail square. Anti-epistemology. Brought to mind Thomas Kuhn. Realized Kuhn’s irony when I found out he was set up to write Structure Sci Revolutions by the military/industrial complex. Almost as ironic as finding out about Steinbeck’s repeated and finally successful efforts to join cia. So what’s a soon to be self aware deity to do to gain working knowledge, skill and awareness?

[Note: I thought this already posted so I’ll try it once more just in case. My apologies if it’s a duplicate.]

Quoting goshawks: “Have you ever seen the movie/artwork, “The Man Who Planted Trees”? (original title: “L’homme qui plantait des arbres”) Inspiring…
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093488/

I personally haven’t seen the original but a couple of years ago I did read a book about a follow-up (of sorts) to the Jean Giono story in France. A kind of real life Elzeard Bouffier named David Milarch in Michigan.

The new 2012 book is written by Jim Robbins and it is pretty fascinating. Milarch, who worked in a garden nursery, was an alcoholic who had a near death experience. He claims that he was visited by “angels” who instructed him to save the trees. He has since committed his life to cloning the largest and oldest available of each tree species. The basic idea being that man has foolish plundered the largest specimens of each species and only left behind the “runts of the litter” so to speak. Consequently this has had dramatic negative effects on the health of forest.

Milarch has had quite a bit of success. He has met with a number of scientists and has travelled as far as California, England and even China visiting sacred groves and collecting samples. The most fascinating part of the book to me was how little contemporary science actually knows about trees. There was some fascinating information in the book but the bit that has really stuck with me is how tree buds have actually been document to follow radiation patterns related to stars. It’s actually blindingly simple…trees are collectors of “stellar” (or if you prefer, “solar” energy.)

If you’d like an enjoyable read then I definitely recommend the book:

I seem to have had another “poof” goes the post “incident”. Some are technical, but other posts?
It’s rather apropos for I was addressing this “purposed ignorance” or “white darkness” that is systemic and manifested/alchemized into a controlled and managed perception civilizations.
We all are aware of the great attention paid to epistemology[the study of how we know]; when “how or why we don’t know” is often just as important, usually criminal in substance and purposely undertheorized. The usual suspects are touted as secrecy, uncertainty, confusion, silence, absence, and impotence – especially as these pertain to ancient histories or cutting/edge sciences.
We know a lot about so-called knowledge but next to nothing about purpose ignorance.
You can’t expect to fight this information war using “their” rules of engagement. If you want fair, your on the wrong planet[at least for now].
Before enlightenment one must break though not only the darkness; but the white darkness as well.

On the Gilgamesh Saga translation concerning the ‘aromatic cedars’, there is an interesting side: Location. Various authors have noted that aromatic cedars existed mainly in Lebanon during Gilgamesh’s lifetime. What else was in Lebanon that involved Enlil? Why, Ba’albek, of course…

It is a long trek from Uruk, Gilgamesh’s kingship in Sumer, to Lebanon (unless you have access to a “Vimana”). Why make this arduous trek? Lumber? How much lumber can two people – even heroes – haul back? And, the translation says that an entire forest was wiped out. How much of a forest can two people – even heroes – manually wipe out? Much is ‘hidden’ here…

The background to this trek lies with the fact of “King Gilgamesh of Uruk, who was 3/4 [Anunnaki]. Gilgamesh’s father, Banda, married Ninsun, daughter of Enki and Ninmah. Banda and Ninsun begat Gilgamesh, who was thus Enki’s grandson. Gilgamesh boasted, ‘I’m three-fourth god.’ (as genetically-pure [Anunnaki] called themselves)” [from enkispeaks]. Gilgamesh claimed the ‘right’, based on his genetics, to have physical immortality. However, this was denied by the pure-blood Anunnaki leaders. Hence, this trek…

Now, Ba’albek was the biggest ‘construction’ between Sumer and Egypt. No one knows the original purpose of the ‘base structure’, and it’s gigantic Trilithon block trio. Even today, we are unable (or barely able) to move and raise stones of this weight/size. (And, why did whomever built-it bother with such ultra-massive pieces?) Later cultures built temples on this ‘base structure’, to honor whomever originated it.

“Humbaba was set to his task by the god Enlil.” Other authors commenting on this Saga have noted that Humbaba was not human; decidedly not so. But very powerful. He/she/it was kind of the ‘guy’ that you might have guarding a ‘facility’ like Ba’albek. Not a forest.

Another interesting angle: Gilgamesh was the grandson of Enki. Enlil and Enki were half-brothers, and liked to one-up each other. Near enemies, except for the family entanglement. So, what would someone from the Enki side be doing trying to ‘breach’ a facility owned & operated by the Enlil side? Hmmm…

That stone is likely made of concrete that’s indistinguishable from limestone–it’s a well demonstrated process, and it was certainly available to a variety of ancient cultures. It’s not some abstract hypothesis.

      • goshawks on October 8, 2015 at 11:51 am

Lost, I have seen articles where a scientist claims to have made ‘concrete’ blocks indistinguishable from pyramid blocks. However, in the Ba’albek case, there is a visible, almost-ready stone – in the quarry where it was cut – about a quarter mile from the ‘base structure’. Many photos show it, with a possible crack that caused it to be abandoned. If I remember correctly, a second huge stone was just ‘detected’ using ground-penetrating radar in the same quarry. So, the stone at Ba’albek is probably ‘natural’.

        • Lost on October 8, 2015 at 12:24 pm

          gosh:

I don’t think anyone is claiming big stones were never quarried.

This geologist is doing far more than claiming, he’s been demonstrating it for 40 years.

          geopolymer.org.

It well explains fluted bowls and impossibly carved granite, and explains the bigger things in south America too.

I don’t know anything about quarries at Baalbek, I’ve seen some references in Egypt.

Good ole Enlil. Just a myth, of course…

If I put on my ‘ancient alien’ glasses, this find is interesting because of Location. Other a.a. authors have mentioned that aromatic cedars were found primarily in Lebanon. And, what else was in Lebanon that was likely associated with Enlil? Why, Ba’albek, of course…

If you cast aside the foreshadowing that Gilgamesh was an oaf and a megalomaniac, why would he travel from Uruk to Lebanon? Not an easy trek in those days, unless you had access to a “Vimana”. For lumber? How much lumber can two – even heroic – people carry? And the translation talks about wiping out a forest. How can two – even heroic – people take down an entire forest? Much more is hidden here…

    Background:

The background of the Gilgamesh saga revolves around the fact that “Gilgamesh’s father, Banda, married Ninsun, daughter of Enki and Ninmah. Banda and Ninsun begat Gilgamesh, who was thus Enki’s grandson. Gilgamesh boasted, ‘I’m three-forth god.’ (as genetically-pure Nibirans called themselves).” But, Gilgamesh was denied immortality, even so. Hence, the trip…

Now, Ba’albek was probably the biggest construction outside Sumer and Egypt. Nobody knows why the effort was put into the ‘base structure’, particularly the Trilithon block trio. We cannot build it (or barely) even today. What was this ‘facility’ used for, before later cultures built temples on it?

“Ḫumbaba was set to his task by the god Enlil.” Now, other authors talk about how the epic states that Ḫumbaba was not human, decidedly so. But very powerful. The kind of ‘guy’ you might use to guard a ‘facility’ like Ba’albek. Not a forest.

    • goshawks on October 7, 2015 at 4:17 pm

Just a whimsy: In the original “Stargate” movie, the Gate was horizontally-buried under massive cover stones – to prevent access from either ‘side’. What if Ba’albek was a real-world version of this?

Also, in a kind of “2001: A Space Odyssey” style, it would take a technologically-advanced culture to pull the massive Trilithon-type stones off/out. It would be a kind of ‘test of progress’, like the Monolith buried on the Moon…

How much lumber can two people – even heroes – haul back? And, the translation says that an entire forest was wiped out. How much of a forest can two people – even heroes – manually wipe out? Much is ‘hidden’ here…

            Background:

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humbaba

(And, why did whomever built-it bother with such ultra-massive pieces?) Later cultures built temples on this ‘base structure’, to honor whomever originated it.
            http://vejprty.com/baalbek.htm

Hmmm…

ps. those cedars were lost to over grazing. standard theory established that ages ago, right?

Zendogbreath, thanks for the support. It appears to have been a technical issue. Many copies to read, now. (grin)

On the disappearance of the cedar forests: From what I have read, it was standard human ‘overpressure’. Like why Britain has little-to-no natural forests left. A combination of cutting down for warfare, charcoal making, construction, etc., with – as you said – grazing-off of the young trees. Sad. I hope local humans can bring them back.

Have you ever seen the movie/artwork, “The Man Who Planted Trees”? (original title: “L’homme qui plantait des arbres”) Inspiring…

So, Is your speculation that if these had been in the Baghdad Museum, they hadn’t previously been read or translated? Otherwise, unless someone has just learned how to translate them, surely their contents would already have been catalogued and known, given their seeming importance.

After reading Joseph, Sitchin, and many others I’ve always said that the true and FULL story of the Annunaki has yet to be told. The tablets tell the tale and the main stream academia tells us “they are just myths”, well dear Mr. Quackademia, I ain’t buying it.
The ancient scribes who could read and write were highly regarded back then, so why would highly educated people spend their whole life writing fairy tales???????
This new tablet may have a few more “titbits” but the real question to be asked is……where is the rest of them? In private collections, hidden away in museum vaults, the possibility of the full Mesopotamian history could be in the hands of people who want it kept secret, and I am totally convinced that this hidden history resides in the Vatican library. Who else would stop at nothing to hide our TRUE history than a bunch of lying criminals and pedophiles??????

True human history may not be uncovered unless and until a competing “Off World” presence arrives with a recorded history. I do believe the PTB would cook off a nuclear war to conceal what really happened in what is classically called ancient history. However, thanks to the discoveries of Gobekli Tepe and the original city of Dwarka (~40′ under the Indian Ocean) ancient civilization is now placed at ~14k years old, instead of 5000 years old when we are supposed to believe goat herders and hunter gatherers smoked some amazing ganja and start building pyramids.

You name the European power with archaeological teams in that area. You could draw up a list of suspects in these robberies of clay tablets the would be at top of the list with who knows what information contain in them. Information that our elites crave.

If the books attributed to Enoch are indeed accounts of actual events, the giants were angelic/human, hybrid progeny and were given forbidden knowledge by their fathers. If we assume a similar increase in knowledge to the last century from that original education of the giants, then the antediluvian world/immediate post flood world was vastly different from what we have been lead to believe and more in line with many ancient texts versions of it. It is also understandable why the early catholic church would choose not to include these texts within the Bible. Whether you choose to believe Enoch’s, the Sumerian or any other ancient texts version of that period of earths history, we can also assume that their cosmology was remarkably different from todays and potentially far more advanced if their globally surviving megalithic stonework is any indication. It is also understandable why these beings would be considered gods, although they certainly didn’t behave as one would think a god should; eventually warring among themselves to the point of their extinction by human hands. It could also be viewed as one of the causes of that cosmic war which destroyed so much of this Solar system and may be why traces of civilization might be discovered on other planetary bodies with this system.
Given these assumptions, it is understandable why such knowledge would be sought after by any number of governments/groups as we appear to be heading down a similar technological path today. Given our current lack of moral maturity as a species, the outcome would appear to be similar.
To date, I have not personally encountered many details of a technological nature within the Sumerian tablets of which I have been able to view translations; which you seem to find in ancient texts from other cultures. Given the large number of tablets rumored to exist, this could partially be the reason, the other reason is obvious.

Didn’t Himmler lead an archaeological expedition to Iraq to study the sumarian artifacts in the thirties and wouldn’t this put the German expedition now at a distinct advantage over the rest of the group, perhaps knowing more of what to look for and save than the Iraqi curators themselves.
