In Transhumanism: A Grimoire of AlchemicalAgendas, Dr Scott de Hart and I pointed out that the basic agenda behind transhumanism, as a philosophical movement or meditation upon humanity's future, seems to be at root fundamentally alchemical, since it follows the path of ascent from animal, to vegetable, to mineral, and finally, to androgynous man. Crucial to this emerging philosophical meditation are the so-called GRIN technologies: Genetics, Robotics, Information-processing, and Nanotechnologies. In that book, we likewise advanced the hypothesis that androgyny, in the ancient myths, was … [Read more...]

ROBOTIC SELF-AWARENESS ONE STEP CLOSER?
This very intriguing, and in its way, disturbing article was brought to my attention by a member of this website (Mr. S.), and it brings to the fore, once again, the deep need for a profound philosophical and cultural discussion on humanity, science, and the future of both: Robot learns to recognise itself in the mirror What intrigues here are not the implicit scientific and philosophical assumptions of the article - is this behavior merely mimickry by dint of a programming wizardry? Or is it a genuine robotic response to input from a mirror, a response in which it "recognizes … [Read more...]
ROBOTICS ADVANCES: THEY’RE NOT SCIENCE FICTION ANY MORE
Well, robotics has now advanced to the point of making real what was only science fiction a mere two decades ago. Check these out: Robotic Humming Bird Robotic Human Hand The first article notes that the goal of these scientists would be to make a fully fledged "android" robot for "for assisting the elderly or disabled people, performing tasks such as typing, reaching objects, and opening doors." Well, that's nice that they're always looking out for us in our dottage. Once one has opened the door to that possibility, another possibility arises, and that it robotical-human interfaces … [Read more...]
