For a very different take, and a very plausible one, than my own on the MH 17 flight, here's a worthy article from Global Research on the matter:

That said, if you stop and think about it, NATO's and the US's popularity is so low in world opinion right now, that it seems to me to indicate that they have nothing to gain from shooting down a civilian airliner and murdering hundreds of innocent civilians either. Which leaves the possibility of "another player" at work...

I was unaware of this judgment, but it does provide a reason why.
So, while our (the world’s) focus is being centered on
this tragedy unfolding on the border of Russia and the Ukraine, what is going on in the rest of the world? Oh, this just in~~”live explosions in Gaza”, i.e. ground forces moving into Gaza from Israel. Hmmmm. . all very suspicious.

The Ukrainian Junta is more than capable of shooting down a civilian aircraft – at least morally. Haven’t they been responsible for the death of hundreds of people in eastern Ukraine, including women and Children. The neo-nazi clique which is supported by the US/NATO in the later’s quest for domination, could have easily engineered this “incident” as a kind of false flag. The kiev regime was way too quick to point the finger of blame after the incident as if they had their talking points ready, as have the war monger neocons russophobes in the US.
Now we have damning “recordings”, and “indications” that the missile was fired from rebel territory. Is anyone else reminded of the false flag Ghoutta chemical weapon attack that was engineered to be pinned on Assad (a claim now completely debunked). Remember those mysterious recordings of a Syrian military official effectively “confessing” to the attack? a recording kindly and helpfully supplied by Israel? remember the “proofs” (now proven to be false) that the rocket with the chemical payload was fired from the Syrian government held territory?
Why, it’s like a script repeated a second time, now that the first one, even though debunked, still has a hold on the captive, corporate owned US and Europe media outlets. Hs anyone seen much refutation – or even an apology – from the Guardian – which has all but followed the script (give or take a few counter-opinion, that were put in the margins).
According to the Russian side, the radar of the kiev-manned Buk battery was on and operational on July 17. It was located well within strike distance of the plane, or it could have passed the information to another battery that was moved closer to the rebel-held area, so as to establish “proof”. This is not so difficult to do, if the will is there. I am saying here that we have evidence the kiev regime will not shy away from killing hundreds of civilian people – including their own Ukrainian compatriot. Neither is the US – the owner of the regime – all that happy about the continuing ties between the Dutch and the Russians.
I am sure people pointed it out already, but the similarities to Gulf of Tomkin incident are also glaring and they too started with a “recording” later turned out to be doctored. But not before 100’s of thousands of Vietnamese were incinerated, to this day, without an official apology.

If the reports are true about the pro-russian rebels having shot down ukranian cargo planes in the days preceding the massacre and the US flight bans; then the Malaysian government and airline were negligent sending the jet on that path. Worse, possibly even teeing up the target. If CNN reports are true of highly nervous pro russian fighters tampering with the “crash site” (removing cell phones and 35bodies, intimidating reporters(etc.) then perhaps these fighters were the triggermen. I don’t know if the descriptions of a concentrated crash site jives with earlier reports that there was a 10 mile wide debris field. Yesterday’s fox broadcast of the GRU/rebel phone conversations in English seemed fishy. Later backround written russian transcripts were added apparently to make the tape more credible. Scary, as we are flying around up there, that our heads can be diverted to the chopping block. Sadly, what we will probably wind up with any explanation is reasonable doubt. One third of the victims were children(CNN). 4 children killed on a Gaza beach. Children walking up through our southern border….
I actually watched the ABC in Melbourne today. Our leaders are so obviously with the US on this issue. Quite sickening. So I went back to the computer for more info. And found a very good article on SOTT. Quite detailed.

10 other flights were perfectly safe as they were flying outside the conflict zone. HOWEVER, flight MH17 was REDIRECTED towards the conflict zone.
From what I hear, a military jet was used to “escort” the passenger jet towards the conflict zone. Just in case the pilot decided that he didn’t want to be anywhere near the conflict zone!

with all respect to DrOctos’s posting I think this is the lead we need to take; AIDS research; no, not it’s cure but the PHARMACEUTICAL SCAM behind it- so if it is true that AIDS researchers (maybe whistleblowers) were on this flight then it makes sense; I just don’t think we should rule this out;
look, folks HIV never killed anybody; it’s pharmaceutical treatment AZT was the killer!- not yet noticed no-one dies of HIV anymore (never did), even though the HIV-positive group continues to swallow pharmaceuticals that continue to erode their health?- and yet if/IF they die their demise is attributed to HIV instead of (guess what?) their ingested pharmaceuticals combating the condition the pharmaceutical industry created to begin with to create a demand for their money-based ‘cures’ …

This morning while streaming democracynow I heard that a hundred top aids researchers were killed on flight MH17. A coincidence maybe but with all the important people who were passengers on flight MH370 this is being to look highly suspicious. The first Malaysian flight missing a large number of passengers involve in the computer electronics mainly from China. Now this Malaysian this flight with Aids connected scientist and advocates killed a change in MO possibility how about a bomb on this plane risky but with the Ne-cons in our government I wouldn’t put beyond them. Also RT tv and the website io9 had a article this morning about this.
Flying a commercial airliners into war zones is frowned upon by insurance companies. Hostile areas are avoided like the plague by all air carriers. How the airliner found it’s way into hostile territory is a very interesting question. Sorta, kinda like how JFK’s motorcade was routed thru Dealy Plaza at the last minute.
Since Putin and Obama, if not the US State Dept, seem to be aligned in trying to keep the peace in central Europe, who’d want to disturb that? SPECTOR?

The “old men in a hurry” scenario is looking more probable all the time as the empire overextends itself.
Here is a minor but curious aspect the might point to something like a grotesque sense of humour – stranger things than this have happened: it’s just a LEETLE much having this tragedy of flt. 17 on July 17th. And the prime number 17, in Latin and other European cultures,is superstitiously considered to be unlucky, like 13 in the English-speaking world.
