This is one of the strangest stories I've received recently, and it was sent by Mr. T.M.  NASA, according to this article, intercepted, and eventually decoded, an 80,000 year old distress message from a planet apparently outside this galaxy. Whether "outside" means in a distant galaxy, or rather, outside the galactic rim, is unstated. There is much, in other words, to make one question the article. But since high octane speculation is our trademark here, I have included this story in this week's blogs because, when I read it, there was something that leaped off the page, and made me shudder. So, in spite of my extreme skepticism about this story, see if you discover the same lines, and have the same reaction:

NASA Received an SOS Call from another Galaxy?

Now that you've had time to read the article, let's recapitulate. It begins with an outline of the claim:

Interestingly enough, one of those files featured an article originally published in the Weekly World News (September 15, 1998 Vol 19 No. 51) with a story about how NASA detected, intercepted, and decoded a mathematically-based distress signal from a purportedly doomed planetoid outside our own galaxy. Unfortunately, at the time the said article was published, in Weekly World News, it was not taken seriously because of that particular magazine's standing reputation of being a tabloid.

The signal was detected in January of 1998 but, however and as it might be expected, it took many months to properly decode the message.

At this juncture, the original Weekly World News article is then reprinted in its entirety, and I have italicized the portions that I considered chilling in their implications:

NASA experts claim to have intercepted an intergalactic distress call from an alien civilization that had already peaked and was actually dying when saber-tooth tigers still roamed the earth.

The 80,000-year-old SOS was received and digitally recorded in late January 1998.

But only in recent weeks have radio astronomers and language experts found the key to the complex mathematics-based language that enabled them to translate the 'frantic plea for help'.

The world press has been suspiciously silent about the startling message, though lengthy scientific reports are scheduled for publication in two professional journals, Radio Astronomy and Universe.

According to a highly placed NASA source in Houston, Texas, noted Russian space scientist Dr. Viktor Kulakov is leading a United Nations research team from a state-operated observatory 50 miles northwest of Moscow.

Dr. Kulakov told Universe that the signal emanated from a point beyond the galaxy nearest to our own, Andromeda, and was sent by beings that had apparently achieved a civilization no more advanced than our own here on Earth.

“The simple fact that we received and decoded the message proves beyond any doubt that their knowledge and technology were, at the very best, within our reach.” Dr. Kulakov explained.

“And while there are years of study ahead of us, I can say with certainty that the death of their civilization was not the result of some cosmic catastrophe. It was the result of the civilization turning on itself, possibly with devastating nuclear weaponry.”

Dr Kulakov flatly refused to provide either of the magazines with a transcript of the message, but he did say it began with the plea, “Help us,” and went on to give data pinpointing the exact position of the doomed planet.

There was a quite lucid account of apocalyptic devastation, hellish explosions, widespread death and terminal illnesses,” he said.

“A Shower of meteors? Perhaps. But what stikes me, and this is just a feeling, is an underlying acceptance of guilt. It’s as if the senders of the message are acknowledging blame for what happened.”

"Whatever it was, they apparently had no means to evacuate the remaining population. Interplanetary space travel was available to them, but only on a very limited level. The message makes it very clear that they were trapped on their world,” said Dr. Kulakov. (Emphasis added)

What I found disturbing here was the date: 80,000 years ago, a date that by some lights (not my own) would place it within the range of similar catastrophes here on Earth, suggesting not merely some catastrophe limited to this planet, or the distant Andromedan planet, but something inter-galactic. Now indulge me penchant for wild and bizarre speculations for a moment.

Assuming for the sake of argument that this story is true - and there have been similar stories from time to time over the years - then let us turn it on its head for a moment, and assume that Dr. Kulakov is correct, and that the distress call was not the result of a natural catastrophe. What he is suggesting, quite clearly, is that it is the result of a war, of a civilization turning upon itself in a nuclear conflagration. But what if this is not the case? What if the war was something else entirely? An invasion, or a civil war of an interplanetary civilization? What intrigues me about this scenario are the implications behind what little about the message is revealed in the article: the message appears almost uniquely human in character, and this too I find disconcerting, for it is a kind of confirmation of my suspicion, held for years, that we have "genetic cousins" out there, and that, for whatever reason, there is a power or force or species or race intent on our destruction, wherever we be found.

So what am I getting at here? Years ago i wrote The Cosmic War: Interplanetary Warfare, Modern Physics, and Ancient Texts, and when writing it, I struggled with powerful emotions of sadness and despair, that such destruction not only could be contemplated, but wielded. But reading this story, I begin to wonder, what if that cosmic war was, indeed, truly cosmic, that some distant planet was destroyed by some Andromedan Tiamat and Marduk? it's all too human-sounding message hits too close to home, even though it is from another galaxy, far far away, and a long time ago...

See you on the flip side...

Andromeda Galaxy is two point six million light years away and they do have reason to be in distress as they have a heavy rouge wandering galaxy about to crash into them.

You will be glad to hear that one hundred and thirty three sentient life forms were rescued and brought to this galaxy this has been on going for thousands of year many others went to the Pollux galaxy those over the far side.

None will see this event in real time here as it takes 2,6 l.yrs right but it was interesting that at least one of the calls was picked up and event reported thanks. Oh yes totally believable for a fact by the way. It took them a long time to decode the message since January 1998 as distress calls are by nature simple on a one two three one harmonics on the red band so moved as fast as it could curious how they picked it up and dated it.

Anyway that was a nice one to hear about i shall let others know and check out who sent it to let them know someone heard them made me smile when all hope was lost well they all saved now by others who could actually help not like anyone hear could bless them they still do not believe you can go faster that the speed of light it is a law so must be true well it makes us laugh limited thinking.

This ‘cosmic war’ you’ve talked about is a misunderstanding of the term from ancient sources… the ‘war in heaven’ was an idea based conflict affecting our planet in ways not quite revealed in purely human written accounts.

The Universe is a completely friendly place, no physical battles take place, certainly there is no inter-planetary warfare going on, nor is there any force seeking to eliminate humans… a reading of an accurate account of our history is found ONLY in the Urantia Book.

I’m not suggesting you’ll find the book easy to read or even easy to accept… just that with time and an open mind you’ll gain much of value.

Bogus. Propaganda from a very weak Russia of the time. Intended to encourage anti nuclear proliferation in The U.S.

    • Kahlypso on August 5, 2016 at 5:19 am

The more I think about this story, the more I lean towards a signal being bounced back to us.. Is it possible that it’s a message sent out from Earth 40 000 years ago, and perhaps bounced back off some kind of deep space anomoly that sends radio waves back to the point of origin.. I havent read enough mr Sitchin to have read his Wars of Gods and Men.. Does anyone have a rough idea of when the 2nd war of the Pyramid took place?

  4. Joseph P. Farrell on July 30, 2016 at 5:03 am

Just a reminder here folks, as I said in the blog, I am “extremely skeptical” of this story.

    • Kahlypso on August 1, 2016 at 5:38 am

Viktor Kulikov was supposedly a Russian general, not a doctor.. and it is said.. that the message would have taken far longer to reach us from Andromeda. This means one of several things to me. Its a fake and its being used to ease us into disclosure about real ETI’s. OR Its real and we dont really know how things travel through space, not really.. OR its fake and is being used by someone somewhere to stir the crazies around the pot and get them looking right when they should be looking left.

      • Kahlypso on August 1, 2016 at 5:44 am

Russians telling the world to own up about the Aliens. (Im sure everyone here has already seen this, the MiB documentary is also on this linked page if you havent seen that yet.)

And they say that they will disclose in Switzerland..

Didnt the Russians disclose soemthing about matter alternating alchemical stuff in Switzerland lately??

  5. goshawks on July 29, 2016 at 7:49 pm

Actually, I believe that this is an incredibly brilliant ‘maneuver’. A safe form of disclosure…

If you have a saucer landing on the White House lawn, Joe & Jane Public freak (it is assumed). On the other hand, a message from a dying race which has no possible physical connection to us would be tolerated. Perhaps even empathized with. The door would be cracked. Disclosure, with no Earthly repercussions. Clever…

The above is why I, personally, believe it is a psyop. The timing is just too perfect; so is the message. However, it IS interesting in terms of “Why Now?”

I’m still hoping for that White House lawn landing, after all these decades. If I were those aliens landing, I would mess with the public’s mind by having NCC-1701 prominently-stenciled on the nose of their craft… (grin)

I agree a very Enterprising reply that would be amusing to be considered perhaps. But why indeed now is a very good question as they say that they have had it since 1998 still all very interesting we shall see what if anything comes of it they may wait to see how it is received by the general public.

So if it has any legs to stand on then who knows what the new annalists have to say or advice as the last expert that said the public were children was part of MJ12 so as time has moved on.

  6. Andrea Ashtine on July 29, 2016 at 4:56 pm

Skeptical. Sounds way too human. Suspicious without further information.

  7. Leon on July 29, 2016 at 2:46 pm

This report makes no sense to me at all. How could anyone decipher a language that is totally alien, in an alphabet that is totally alien (if indeed they had any sort of alphabet at all), which was then transcribed in to an unknown digital format and transmitted to “out there” and then local guys whoop-de-doo translate it into ENGLISH? Come off it.

It beggars my belief ability. You could probably give these translators a heap of totally random monkey squiggles and the would “translate” it as a stock market report.

    • bdw000 on July 29, 2016 at 4:19 pm

I agree. The claim is obviously false. No amount of technology is going to translate unknown languages when you have absolutely ZERO references to ANYTHING in the message.

Either that, or they’re using psychics and still don’t want to admit it. Even then, psychics, despite some dramatic successes, are usually no better than a coin toss. Psychics are also probably prone to being manipulated just like everyone else . . .

    • cursichella on July 30, 2016 at 2:38 am

If members of that civilization were really our galactic cousins then it’s conceivable there could be similarity with one of earth’s more ancient languages, perhaps originally taught by a go-between? Sumerian?

If the digital message contained imagery and an unknown language, then possibly decipherable, too.

      • Blue Dragon Lord on August 16, 2016 at 11:12 am

Well Sumerian would only be used by those smelly not nice aliens who made the treaty with USA 23rd. September 1953 nasty creatures. Not nice aliens who would take an interest in saving or helping in any way that they could and did in this case fact by the way.

The Shadow government well the Naval Intel branch folks who sat in the lead chair back then have had the common galactic language Ipscany since around that time and also distress call frequencies in case they needed them here actually as a courtesy i add.

Their method of dating this has us curious and the release of it even and the form of the message as it hit here and this planet is in the middle of nowhere almost like hit the galaxy anywhere and every where it is interesting for those who take a keen interest in these things

  8. T.J. on July 29, 2016 at 2:36 pm

No Question: NASA just admitted the existence of non-terrestrial intelligence (NTI).

On Earth, NTI has regularly shut down the nuclear weapons of U.S. & Russia, etc. If we did not know the reasons before now, now we know the reason.

As per Joseph Farrell, Richard Hoagland, Stephen Bassett, Steven Greer, David Wilcock & many others, NTI is more than adequately proven. Also much evidence for cosmic wars in our own solar system (e.g., on & against Mars).

We also have significant evidence that NTI may be and/or probably is behind the unnecessary & counterproductive conflicts & wars on Earth.

If “high octane speculation” is fair game for discussion at GDS (here), then properly labeled SSP whistleblower testimony should also be fair game — especially such whistleblower testimony is supported by and congruent with good science & tangible evidence (e.g., David Wilcock’s “Wisdom Teachings”).

The decoded NASA intercept is congruent with NASA’s ‘Limited Disclosure’ of recent years: ‘Dead NTI, Yes; But No Live NTI.’ However, we already have too much evidence of live NTI on Earth NOW to deny the existence of such. Thus, Full Disclosure of NTI visiting, living on and interacting with human beings NOW is probably inevitable (maybe even imminent).

    • Blue Dragon Lord on August 16, 2016 at 11:30 am

T.J. really no one is that interested in actually meeting real ones or speaking with those nice aliens even those who say they would like to they run for cover sadly a fact.

NTI’s i like this phrase even here on a free thinkers site it is usually stated as skeptical whatever this story i found interesting as the source from whence the message came does have a problem so has a basis for being real that is all what is behind as you say this limited disclosure is the real wonder and puzzle perhaps to verify as only those who would know for sure could make such bold claims as this could be true.

As Andromeda does have a major event going on that cannot be seen from here as the time it takes light to travel is vast 2,6 l.yrs right.

Just saying this is interesting as it has grounds for being authentic no matter who leaked the story or how more parts of the puzzle yes?

  9. Jon on July 29, 2016 at 1:50 pm

I’ve just been going over Laviolette’s work on pulsars and galactic waves. It will be interesting to see how this fits in with his theories.

The timing of the discovery would also fit interestingly into 9/11 and the breakup of the WW2 hidden finance cartel. What else was in the message?

Did we send one of our FTL ships to investigate the remains?

    Sounds like an SG-1 episode.

    • jplatt39 on July 29, 2016 at 6:10 pm

I don’t want this to go into moderation so rather than quote some of the headlines I associate with that rag I’ll just say yes I believe they would publish this in fact I would believe they publish it if they have to make it up out of whole cloth. In other words WWN to me is reason to doubt it. That said, the article describes this as ” a mathematically-based distress signal” and “the complex mathematics-based language” which to me means it uses abstract patterns to provide outsiders with hooks to find translations. Abstraction is key here. It comes from math and music, and while I appreciate it more in the visual arts than many people here, it’s in the sense it’s applied to symphonies for example that I find it credible it can be used to create a language designed to be deciphered.

But the source is still garbage.

  10. Pellevoisin on July 29, 2016 at 1:32 pm

A message in a bottle found upon a distant shore.

For some inexplicable reason this story and Dr. Farrell’s commentary fills me with incredible sadness… as though I were hearing something I knew but had put out of mind.

The number 80 thousand is very striking to me. How I should like to read the full transcript of such a message, but there must be something within it that those controlling it feel they must conceal. That is telling in its own right.

    • Blue Dragon Lord on August 16, 2016 at 11:45 am

Yes i like that this message in a bottle and the date of eight thousand years is very significant that is true for many reasons.

Andromeda is a large galaxy ten time as large as this on Omega what people here call the milky way well anyway within fifty thousand year the heavy gravity rouge galaxy that is going to crash into will take around one point three billion year to collaps the entire place sucking it in for the graphic visualization.

The worry there after as it is also in line with this galaxy in a further three and a half billion years if the action and reforming of the new galaxy does not stay in relative terms to where it is or rather will be after all of the activity.

it may head this way as it had been theorized as possible so no panic plenty of time to work things out but all possible that was the most likely addition after help in any one can other did hear and help so that is okay.

  11. Guygrr on July 29, 2016 at 11:17 am

What if this message is inter dimensional, i.e. It’s come from the other side a la Fringe. Maybe it’s being bounced off the andromeda galaxy rather than originating there.

    • Roger on July 29, 2016 at 11:48 am

Perhaps this signal is from Earth 80,000 years ago and only just then bounced back to us.

Or is this another meme to bring back the Geo-Centric universe so the parasites that run this planet can continue their orgy of greed.

mind = blown / three alien thumbs up for this post 😉

    • Blue Dragon Lord on August 16, 2016 at 11:58 am

okay there just happens to be an alien race call the ‘Dendriot’ no worries no here has ever heard of them 500 light years away in the PEGGY system they have three limbs arms and legs and three eyes but they have two thumbs on each hand now they would get this joke.

well if it was down and not up as originally thumbs up meant go to meet your maker and down meant stay alive historically correct here long ago as in the Roman collosium with gladiators.

But this funny all the same i agree a great story this one hence all my comments is a sure give away on that.

Didn’t the original Men In Black (MiB) movie have Tommy Lee Jones telling understudy Will Smith that disclosure happened through tabloids? Look beyond “Batboy” and “Saddam and Osama’s gay wedding.”

Perhaps MiB itself constituted an instance of plausibly deniable disclosure. A la Brookings, slowly introduce concepts in the social consciousness in a non-threatening way: comedic science fiction, in this instance.

Actually I noticed that no NAzSA functionary was actually named, with the spokesman being a Russian scientist. According to the “hoax-slayer” website, that gentleman was not a space scientist but a “high-ranking military leader in the former Soviet Union” – which does not make the reference any less interesting.
The only other name mentioned is former Sen. John Edwards, who does not appear to have any “alien” connections. Except perhaps as a Bilderberg attendee…

  20. Kahlypso on July 29, 2016 at 6:01 am

Long time ago in a galaxy far far away?? This is it then. NASA has categorically confirmed the existence of Aliens. No more doubt allowed. We have receieved a decipherable mesage from another galaxy that we understand. So.. EITHER a reflected bounced time travelling message that we send out in the future in a mathematical language as scientists keep hammering on about it being a universal language..which then bounced off andromeda and time travelled back to 1998 (time depends on the observer and is not in my humble opinion limited to the speed that photons travel) OR….. Light Speed Octane Speculation, Nasa just admitted the existence of Aliens.. even though they have probably died out by now..

    • Blue Dragon Lord on August 16, 2016 at 12:37 pm

This galaxy is teaming with sentient life forms NASA has had plenty of collaborating hard evidence over the years so now they can say so in the galaxy next door sure but that does not need to worry anyone here right as it is so far away.

Now if it had to rely on traveling at light speed the time send would have been 2,6 million years ago not eighty thousand.

So they say there is life out there of that there was never a doubt either as you rightly say.

Now i would not under estimate that race smart enough to send a message to their closest neighbors so to put them so easily on the extinction list is a tad premature i think but your concern for those who sent the message is noted all the best to you Kahlypso as it probably took all of a couple of days to know what the message said and since then to let others know.
