Tomorrow, folks, barring unforeseen storms, north-to-south tornadoes, solar mass coronal ejections targeting my house, internet outages or other glitches ex machina, I will be giving a small presentation for Walter Bosley's NYMZA conference. So as I will have to do a bit of preparation for that, I thought that rather than the usual blog for today that I would post many of the articles on Hurricane Helene and associated anomalies as today's blog. On a different note, last night I saw the Northern Lights from my home in Southwestern New Jersey. This should not happen and ten years it would not happen with a solar flare of the same magnitude say solar scientists.
I used to install Primary Distribution Transformers for the Department of Defense as a trained High Voltage Electrician until my 2014 retirement. Ten years ago even a “Hot Job” where damaged XFMR’s needed an asap replacement took at least six months before the manufacture of a replacement arrived once the engineering study team approved the specs for the replacement.
Underground Transformer Vaults are more common on military bases and urban areas and have longer turn around times than above ground Primary Distribution XFMR’s and require more men and equipment than the above ground ones like rural substations use .
Enjoy those pretty Northern Lights but understand that the end of electrical power grids is far more possible with a diminished Magnetosphere and seeing the Northern Lights from my location shows how WEAK our magnetosphere has gotten in the decade since I retired. I do keep a Diesel Generator armed and ready for an extended shutdown however years w/o a primary grid is going to be hell on earth in urban areas long before it gets nearly impossible to live in rural areas.
It will be interesting to see if Israel uses Iran as its scapegoat at the end of Yom Kippur.
