CONCERNING THE RESIGNATION OF TULSI GABBARD AS DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL ...

As most regular readers of this website know, I seldom blog or comment directly about political affairs. Geopolitics, yes, but politics, no. The truth of the matter is I am just not a good writer of op-ed pieces, except that in this instance, the political event is about many more, and deeper things, than any op-ed piece. Additionally, this past week two events constrain me to do so. One was the primary defeat of Kentucky Republican Congressman Thomas Massie by an utter political prostitute, the other was the sudden announcement by Ms. Tulsi Gabbard that she was resigning her position as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), a post which put her in the tremendously powerful and important position of being in charge of all of America's intelligence apparatus.  In the case of Congressman Massie, I like many others watched his primary defeat with something between disgust and horror as AIPAC money - and outright internet fabrications - ended the career of a genuinely independent congressman and decent man for a non-entity and a man who prostituted himself for AIPAC money. Massie took no money from AIPAC in his career, the only GOP congressman of over two hundred GOP congressman, incidentally, not to do so. But for me, the numbers of the primary results are not looking good, and for me they are indicative of an almost Bidenesque scale of egregious election fraud. In short, I think Massie's seat was literally bought (and for good measure, also stolen) from him. More about that will appear tomorrow in tomorrow's "Honourable Mentions" round-up of articles.

Today, however, my focus is on Ms. Gabbard, who resigned, ostensibly, to care for her husband who is struggling with a particularly virulent form of bone cancer.   I have no doubt that this is at least one factor she considered heavily in taking her decision to resign.

But I do not think it was the only one. It was perhaps rather a convenient reason to offer the public for what I strongly suspect was growing dismay (and probably perfectly understandable disgust) on her part at the direction the administration was taking. Ms. Gabbard was a Democrat who, in the course of watching her party abandon sanity, left that party and subsequently accepted a post in the Trump administration, and then had to watch as it and the GOP too lost all connection to sanity and reality: witness the Iran war.  Whatever the objectives of that operation were - and they seemed to change from day to day - they were never met. One lesson of history is that aerial bombardment does not produce regime change nor surrender. It did not work for Hitler over Britain in 1940-41; it did not work for the Allies over Germany or Japan in 1942-45, and it did not for for Israel and America in Iran in 2026.  I have difficulty believing any narrative that would state that Ms. Gabbard was not intelligent and informed enough to know this, and I have difficulty believing any narrative that would have it that she did not voice some intelligent skepticism toward the whole operation as the whole fiasco was being considered.  While Gabbard publicly stated she supported Trump's Iran decision, privately I suspect she had deep misgivings. We'll get back to those in a moment when we consider Joe Kent's resignation.

But I think there are other reasons than just potential opposition to the Iran operation. Consider the following article which recently appeared on RT's website:

Note that the article itself states that Ms. Gabbard had initiated an investigation into those US-Ukrainian biolabs. A Gabbard-sponsored investigation of the biolabs, at her level within the intelligence apparatus, was a supreme threat to the Manichean Zelensky-and-the-Ukraine-good-Russia-and-Putin-evil narrative that has been the hallmark of western media reporting on that unfortunate conflict. It was a threat simply because of one factor: Ms. Gabbard has integrity, and would not have been inclined to cover things up just because they were inconvenient to the goals of the American (and German) deep states in the Ukraine. In short, Ms. Gabbard was already "off-the-reservation" with a probe that increasingly challenged a narrative regarding the Ukrainian war that Mr. Trump once distanced himself from, but with his recent betrayals of campaign promises, appeared to be embracing. So much for ending the Russo-Ukrainian war with a phone call to Mr. Putin.

But there's something else in the timeline that makes me suspect - strongly - that Ms. Gabbard's resignation is about much more than her husband's health, and that's the timeline of events surrounding the JFK files release, and the request to the FBI for any information on foreign involvement in the murder of the American political activist Charlie Kirk. When the former did not occur, and when in the latter case that access was denied to Trump's then-counterterrorism expert, Joe Kent (replaced by Sebastian Gorka), Kent, who already had deep misgivings about any military operations against Iran, resigned. Gabbard was in those meetings too. Thus Gabbard, I think, already confronted by her husband's serious health issues, took the decision that "enough was enough", that the administration in which she and so many others had reposed such hopes, was badly off the rails and being run by deep state technoplutocrats, and Tel Aviv.  Best to get out, and take care of her husband, and to do so now.

No one can blame her, and she will be sorely missed.

But what her resignation does presage is that the paradigm shift in American political culture is not over, and that Trump was just the beginning. Trump having failed, there will be "more to come" as data centers, their water and power use, the folly of allowing a foreign country unlimited interference in our foreign policy and elections via dual citizenships and pressure groups using American taxpayer money to support their agendas, all of that is over.  Ms. Gabbard was not only intelligent enough to see it but had enough integrity to act upon it, and wisely got out.  There will, I predict, be more resignations, and I would not be surprised to see Mr. Kennedy or Mr. Rubio among them. And in Mr. Rubio's case, it will be interesting to see who can distance himself the farthest and fastest from the administration: he, or Mr. Vance.

And I would not be at all surprised to see a third party emerge in the next few years either. People do not want war with Russia, or Iran. People do not want Tel Aviv running American foreign policy nor people with dual citizenships voting in our elections or holding office. People do not want data centers, higher water and electric bills, and so on. They want affordable housing and cheap gas, and Mr. Trump is not delivering, and even if he does finagle some sort of deal with Iran that gets his fat out of Nuttyayhoo's fire, the data centers, AI, power use, and lack of affordable housing still remain. And we know about the Democrats' track record in economic matters all too well. Look at Loonyfornia. So the time is ripe for a third party. The two we have now have failed. Utterly. 

And Ms. Gabbard knows all of this. Rest assured, her resignation is about her husband. But she is a very savvy operator, and thus her resignation is also very politic, and made with a very long range view in mind.
