MANDELA EFFECT AGAIN: ACTOR TIM CURRY’S RECENT DEATH(S)

This week will be a strange week for blogs, because all of the stories are strange, and by "strange" I mean "weird", "anomalous", perhaps (as in today's blog) a trifle bit "dark", because "it" seems to have happened again. And by "it", I mean the Mandela Effect, as I've defined it here on this website. For those of you who have been here for a while, pardon me while I bring people who are more recent readers of this website up to speed on how I've defined the "Mandela Effect".  For me, it is simply the remembering of a different order or timing of events than the common or "normative" memory would have it.

Thus, some people remember former South African President Nelson Mandela dying in prison, not surviving to become that country's first black president. Other people remember actor Richard Chamberlain (of the old TV series Dr. Kildare fame) dying, while the actor (or a very good look-alike) lived several more years and was seen in various syndicated cable television shows. I have a friend who remembers the Richard Chamberlain death. Others remember world-famous actor Kirk Douglas dying, and his son Michael appearing on late night talk shows to talk about his late father, only to have Kirk Douglas die again several years later, with no appearances by son Michael on late night shows to talk about his famous father. (I'm one of those in this camp that remembers Douglas dying earlier and his son's late night talk show appearance). Still again, some people remember the death of famous White House press corps member Helen Thomas during the administration of President Bill Clinton, and the president standing in the White House gardens briefly eulogizing her. Others remember her dying in 2013. (Again, count me in this category as I remember her dying much earlier). Again, I have a friend who remembers the death of a certain rock musician, who, of course, others remember as dying much later.

In all these events, the common thread is that someone died, and that many people remember hearing reports or reading stories that the individual had died. And then later on, the same individual dies, dying again for the individuals who remember the first event, and dying the first time for those who do not remember the first event. The bottom line is that two very different time lines and histories are "remembered" for the individuals in question, regardless of what the explanations for the phenomenon might be.  This is what I mean by the Mandela Effect: real events being reported about real people, and differing timelines of memory.  I do not mean that spellings of Jif, Jiff, or Jiffy peanut butter, or the Baronstein/Berenstein/Barenstane (or whatever) bears changed. Those are products, things, names, whereas the Mandela Effect takes its name from the "original" occurrence of the phenomenon: an event: the death of a significant person remembered as having occurred at different times and circumstances by different groups of people.

With that in mind, I have a question: am I the only one, or does anyone else out there remember actor Tim Curry, who just this past week was reported as having died, was also reported as having died years ago? I ask because when I heard the news, my reaction was simply to turn and look at my radio and say simply: "Oh? The Mandela Effect happened again?"  I remember that Curry was reported to have died years ago of a heart attack. Apparently, I'm not the only one out there, because S.D. found this gentleman thinks the same thing (and thanks to S.D. for passing it along):

I am therefore immensely curious as to how many others out there also remember Mr. Curry passing years ago. If so, please put your remarks in the comments area of the blog, because I do not know this gentleman, nor he me. We do not know where each other lives now, nor where we lived when we first heard Mr. Curry had died years ago. I'd like to know as much as possible about your memories of Mr. Curry's first death, where you were, and any details about it.

Because something is going on, and I've entertained a variety of theories, from vast social and physics experiments  to see if changing timelines or memories can have macro-scaled observer effects, to very macabre ideas about epistemological warfare and social engineering and mass psychosis, to nothing more sophisticated than the "power 'elites'" playing games with us "just because they can,"  to "all the above." At this juncture, I'm even open to the idea of some sort of Fringe scenario, from the television series, where universes with different timelines are bleeding through to each other for whatever reason, and with them, the memories of the histories in each case.

Whatever is happening, it needs some serious study, and the place to begin is with the people having different memories of these events (not changes in spellings of products... that has to come later), where they were  when they heard of the event, and the details of what they heard.  This is happening too often to too many people, and in my case and the case of my friends who have had the experience, I can say that none of us are unintelligent, drug or alcohol addicts, sleep deprived or suffering from any other inhibition of our mental faculties. And we are fortunate in having a terminus ante quem, because the phenomenon seems to have started some time around the 1980s, since according to the "normal" timeline narrative, Mandela was released from prison in 1988. Thus for the Mandela Effect experiencers who remember hearing that he had died in prison, this would have had to have occurred while he was in the Robben Island Prison, or the Pollsmoor Prison, or the Victor Merster Prison (q.v. the Wikipedia article on his periods of incarceration in different prisons). Most Mandela Effect experiences of the original Mandela Effect event remember this death as occurring in the 1980s, and thus while he was incarcerated in one of the last two prisons.  I raise the issue of the terminus ante quem because this is when the issue of differing memories and times of events really began to emerge, and that too is a question for serious study: why then, and not earlier?

In any case, Mr. Curry is dead (again, it would seem), and the questions remain: why do some of us (this author included) remember him as having died earlier? Was his first reported death false, and the last one real? Or vice versa? And what is to be gained by either? The questions remain...
