A SPY SATELLITE (OR TWO) BREAKS UP FOR CAUSES UNKNOWN… (SPACE PT ...
Amid the torrent of space-related stories lately, you may have missed the demise of two satellites, one an old American spy satellite from the 1980s, and the other, a recently launched Chinese satellite (so many of you sent these stories this week that my thanks today are going to have to be limited to a generic "thank you" to all of you who did so):
Chinese Satellite Breaks Apart in Rare Orbit That Could Hold Debris for Centuries
Note that the old American spy satellite apparently exploded for unknown reasons on September 13 this year, at an orbit of approximately 500 miles above the Earth's surface, and that the Chinese satellite - euphemistically called a "reconnaissance" satellite orbiting at approximately 600 miles about the Earth's surface - apparently exploded on September 4 of this year.
As one might imagine, these two events, considered in and of themselves, are not all that unusual. Satellites do explode for a variety of reasons. As the second article notes, those reasons can be almost anything:
It’s not clear what may have caused the Yaogan-50 (02) satellite to break apart, but it may have been a propulsion or battery failure, or it may have itself collided with another object or space debris.
Similarly, the reasons for the explosion of the Cold-War era American spy satellite are unknown, and presumably the explanation will be favorable to similar "accidental" causes. After all, no satellite destruction has ever been explained as the result of deliberate or hostile action.
And that case is precisely what I am going to argue must remain an open possibility in these two instances for the following reasons: Firstly, the two incidents both involve (to use the Chinese euphemism) "reconnaissance" satellites. Secondly, the two incidents occurred within approximately the same time frame, within days of each other. Thirdly, the involved satellites are those of two space competitors, one of which recently disclosed it has weaponized space (the USA) and the other of which has issued warnings against space militarization (China). If the Chinese satellite demise was the result of deliberate and hostile action, the perhaps the destruction of the US satellite was a response. Fourthly, both incidents occurred within a much wider context of American space announcements, calling for expansion of the Space Force, expansion of the war-fighting domains from the sea beds to the lunar surface and perhaps much farther beyond, and a context of strange weather patterns that could be the result of deliberate manipulation. Finally, and fifthly, it strains actuarial imagination to suggest that two "reconnaissance" satellites of competitor powers should explode within days of each other for reasons unknown.
Nor should my speculation be construed as limited to covert American and Chinese space actions against each other. It is entirely possible, given the torrent of space-related announcements by the American military lately, that someone else - General Milley's "little green men" - might be behind such activities. A few years ago, it should be recalled, an American, and a Russian, satellite collider in orbit with each other. Those too were written off as accidents, but I was skeptical then for similar reasons, not the least of which were that two experienced space powers like Russia and America were hardly in the habit of orbiting satellites dangerously close to each other. It appeared to me then that the collision was deliberately orchestrated, again by Russia, or America, or some unknown "third player". And today, with private corporations now able to launch humans and satellites into space and even to the Moon, such a third player is more probable than before...
... and that's not to mention the stranger possibilities of Norman Bergrun's Ringmakers of Saturn... or those strange "battles" some claim to have seen through night-vision goggles going on up there...
Could they be accidents? Sure. Probably they are. But I'm not in any race to exclude deliberate and hostile action either...

I have recently watched Spielberg’s latest movie – Disclosure Day. I was very disappointed and let down by it.
In my opinion, it was just an average middle of the road film and in no way an outstanding plot like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Gremlins.
I’m not sure why Spielberg made it? What was the point? It was nothing new or that we didn’t already know.
The ending was rubbish. “Listen” was the final word.
