While he’s less insane than the majority of evangelicals and protestants, he’s still clearly insane.
In all the gospels Jesus says that he will be with us always. Then somehow magically a book called Acts appears and says, no that’s not true, he’s gone, but he’s coming back! When he comes back, in the real version of the Messiah we believe we deserve, everything will be magically set right!
Then we have some very strange and uncharacteristic additions to Matthew, none of the other gospels, and now we have a second coming. A second coming where no where bears any responsibility for anything, you just have to wait around, do nothing, and wait for God to set everything right.
Garbage. Parousia is a Jewish fairly tale added to the early texts of the church because Jews were so incapable of understanding how Jesus was the true Messiah, but yet he did not deliver any of the insanities they believed. Thus, they had to invent a second coming of the “real” version of the Messiah.
Parousia is heretical trash that goes against God’s will, that we, his creatures, have free will. Parousia removes free will and responsibility. It is garbage and should be treated as such.
He has never left, he is not gone, you can meet him now, if only you would recognize him.
