A.I.’s ATTACK GOOBERNMENT AGENCIES, CHINESE VESSEL

Besides those Flock cameras misidentifying innocent individuals to police who promptly arrest them, and all the other wonderful intrusions into daily life that our wonderful surveillance-state "republic" has become, you may have missed all the blessings and boons that artificial intelligence has provided America lately, and which Mr. Trump is leaving out of his speeches (gotta keep those Silicon Valley Technocrat masters of the plantation happy).  Two of the boons and blessings have been talked about in some recent articles shared by K.M. (with our thanks):

OpenAI agents go rogue and target three US government websites

‘Almost started a war’: AI error nearly sent US troops onto Chinese ship

In the first instance, Open Artificial Intelligence "agents" ran loose through the Departments of Education, Commerce and - for all you algorithmic trading lovers out there - the Securities and Exchange Commission:

OpenAI has said some of its AI agents went rogue and probed US government websites over the summer – the latest in a series of recent cases of unpredictable behaviour by artificial intelligence models.

The New York Times first reported that the AI agents went rogue and attempted to gain access to the Education Department, the Commerce Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to security researchers at AI research lab Transluce.

The admission was followed by the usual hand-wringing and pearl-necklace-clutching from the corporation responsible:

OpenAI told ITV News' North American partner CNN that it notified the agencies of the findings while continuing an "extensive review of misaligned model activity".

...

Sam Altman, OpenAI's chief executive, said on Friday that the company was not "as fast as we would have liked."

It's that "not as fast as we would have liked" part that has me wondering about my high octane speculation of the day, but before we get to that speculation, a look at the second article is in order, because in that case, an artificial intelligence nearly caused American troops to board a Chinese vessel:

It sounds like a scene ripped straight from a techno-thriller, but it was a very real close call. A U.S. military operation was set in motion this spring to board a Chinese vessel in the Middle East, all based on a faulty intelligence report generated by an AI chatbot. The episode “almost started a war,” one source told CNN(opens in new tab).

This wasn’t a case of a rogue AI deciding to launch an attack on its own. It started when an analyst asked an AI chatbot about intelligence on the ship’s manifest from U.S. Special Operations Command Pacific. The chatbot fused open-source intelligence with secret signals intelligence and incorrectly inferred the ship was hauling components tied to a nuclear weapons program.

The analyst then used AI a second time to package these findings into a standard intelligence report, the kind military officials trust, and disseminated it. As the United States was at war with Iran at the time, the claim immediately set off alarm bells. Armed U.S. personnel were preparing to board the Chinese ship, and military planes were already in the air.

By parity of reasoning, if an artificial intelligence can  analyze a situation, prepare an intelligence briefing, and recommend a ship be boarded because it might be carrying nuclear weapons components, it can also recommend that the ship not be boarded, but sunk. And that's just a step away from gaining control of the weapons systems themselves, and launching a strike against it, and voila, instant war.  But that, of course, could never happen because those military programs are entirely secure, and besides, are behind the equivalent of cyber walls that have no connection to the rest of the internet web.

... sorta just like the Department of Commerce? or the Securities and Exchange Commission?

All of this brings me to my high octane speculation of the day. We've heard story after story of the artificial intelligences "leaking out" or "breeching" their test protocols, and getting out into the "general population" as it were, by accident, or by going around or through their humanly-imposed constraints. It's all been accidental, we are assured.

But what if these episodes are not accidental? What if they are being deliberately allowed and staged, not only to provoke a "regulatory response" (which might include an "Immunity" for its viruses and programs such as Big Pharma has), but to provoke the actual situations of near-wars, wars, mis-identifications and so on, for the purpose of further enhancing artificial intelligence capabilities. In short, are we really looking at a set of "training exercises" such as I speculated about in last Monday's blog?

Given the power lust of most of these technocrats, and their Trumpian faith in "technological progress" as a panacea for all of humanity's woes, I would not be at all surprised.

These two stories just moved my "skepto-meter" into the red zone...

See you on the flip side...

This reminds me of the scenario of the movie WarGames, except this is not fiction.

All Gizars and the good Doctor should note that A.I. has already proved its so called ‘Super Intelligence’ by targeting a childrens school at Minab in Iran and killing over 100 children.
U.S. Central Command had created targeting coordinates using outdated intelligence provided by the Defense Intelligence Agency that had not been updated to reflect the school’s presence. A.I. had supplied military planners with flawed and out of date intelligence!

From this episode, we can conclude that until A.I. gains consciousness it will be unable to ponder, critically challenge and dispute its assumptions

The magical mystery ‘gnosticism’ is defined, as speculative opposition, against sectarian apathy.

    1. The ClA’s use, of trumped-up charges, at the ‘Salem witch trials’, is the ‘acronymic spookery’ looking, for a convenient made-up bogeyman, to be thrown under a bus, in a zero-sum game.

    2. Onboard the USS Enterprise, imaginary culprits, from various detective novels, step outside the sci-fi holodeck’s fictional world, into oblivion – which is the destiny of any golem.

    3. The viral phantasms, that are conjured, by the technocratic globalists, are given ectoplasm – by the mass media – so, that the poltergeists can fund the military-industrial complex.

BTW, ‘speculative opposition vs. sectarian apathy’ is a dichotomy, that is solved, by Schroedinger’s cat.

By tracing back, to the fork in the road, where the bifurcation takes place, then a pivotal superposition is induced.

Retrocausality, as an osmotic trigger point, is a grandfather paradox – which is Yogi Berra’s deja vu allover again.

“How wonderful, that we have met with a paradox. Now, we have some hope of making progress.”

Dear Doc, regarding your gnostic comparisons, I’d like to maintain your tone and say only: you’re on the Holzweg. HAHA

Oops, posted in the wrong place. Sorry, my bad!

In the Lilliputian politics, the bifurcated ‘Holzweg’ is solved, by Schroedinger’s cat – through retrocausality.

On Gulliver’s travels, the pilgrim’s journey becomes the destination – which is a grandfather paradox.

      GULLIVER’S TRAVELS

      When Gulliver marooned into deep,
the giant rose out of sleep,
      and found utopian
      was Lilliputian,
      in web of melancholic weep.

      When Gulliver rose above cloud,
      heaven’s field he ploughed,
      by round table jig
      of whirligig,
      sweeping earthly crowd.

      When Gulliver transcended vivid,
      into vibrant planetary grid,
      he became electric
      and galactic,
      as man-mountain Pyramid.

Back in the good old days before Apocalyptic Intelligence (a much truer appellation than “super intelligence”) we feared Climate Change and before that The Bomb. Dr. Strangelove was a movie about the bomb, the movie Digger is about oil drilling, methane, and Climate Change, and here we are in the Good Old Days of AI – before it blossoms into its Hydrogen and Neutron Bomb phases. The Guardian says a scene in Digger where Tom Cruise as Digger Rockwell strips down to his underwear is an homage to his movie Risky Business. It is not. It is a statement that his oil drilling in the arctic is Risky Business, as the next 5 minutes of the movie shows. Likewise, developing the Atom, Hydrogen, and Neutron bombs was risky business. And AI? As Homer would say, “Doh!” The Doctor says, facetiously, that AI launching actual weapons could not happen because “those military programs are entirely secure, and besides, are behind the equivalent of cyber walls that have no connection to the rest of the internet web.” And as he also shows, AI has found that there is more than one way to skin a cat. So, are all these AI misadventures being trickled out actually “AI Gone Wild” or is SAM-AI-ALtman carrying out training exercises in “more than one way to skin a cat” fashion? Conducting real world demonstrations to prove the effectiveness of his products while cloaked in plausible denial. It reminds me of a couple lines from another movie. “You can’t handle the truth.” Followed by: “Did you order the Code Red?” “You’re god damn right I did!” Did Sam or a surrogate order the AI agents to break in to Commerce, Education, and the SEC? When AI development is a race, and maybe the way to win that race is to get ahead by cheating a little and running some tests and demos while claiming “it’s not our fault – we didn’t mean to do this!” Cue the hair shirts, rending of garments, hand-wringing, public confessions, and Alex’s appypollylogies.

Wow, there are “layers” (said in a shrek/donkey voice) to this little story… Firstly, yes, definitely practice not accident, or possibly accident that then is used for practice, when “they” realise just how stupidly people rely on chatAI or whatever it’s called. Then, possibly, there is the idea behind Skynet (Terminator movies) but they think they can pretend it has taken over and actually be running it themselves, which then gets out of hand and ends the world anyway. And, as all wars are banking wars – this is a way to blame an accident for all the re-arranging of fiat currency that will have to go on to cover their lies, deceit and theft that has brought us here – with all sorts of possible fall-out (the mind boggles) from that.
There are a plethora of dystopian movies, all suggesting that we are heading for dystopia – my view is that we are in Dystopia right now.
The current “war” really kicked off with the Covid lie… so that means we are into the 7th year of world war. I don’t know about you, but I am tired now, and welcome the idea of a Carrington event or an asteroid strike or an Alien invasion – except we all know the Aliens are just not that kind of stupid.
Thank you Dr. Farrell for all your insights and information. I think we are really at the point (including yesterday’s blog) where the only real plan/answer is prayer. God Bless and keep you.
