I manage a small private RV campground business that uses a credit/debit card machine to process customer’s payments. A debit card has the smallest processing fee if they are present to enter their PIN number. If they call in their debit card information, the payment becomes a Visa or Master Card credit card transactions which triples the fee. The fee also increases when a regular credit card is called in to pay versus being there in person. Cash payments have zero feesto process except the costs of maintaining a vehicle to drive to the bank ATM. (No I.D. Needed). If I go inside to deposit cash even though I have an account, I have to show an I.D. to prove I am an approved depositor on the account so as to detect possible money laundering. Reducing the costs and management of paper is a boon to any bean counter’s career. Imagine the fees and ease of nothing but electronic money transactions. Wouldn’t even need a bank…..and the extra revenue to the bottom line? Why you’d be crazy not to do it. That’s what professionals do.

The choice of Hong Kong is interesting, considering that the original agreement between UK & mainland China in 1997 handing-over Hong Kong stipulated that HK would be “one country, two systems” for a period of 50 years, i.e., being ‘absorbed’ after 2047. BIS has to have noticed that little fact. So, either BIS expect to have ‘absorbed’ China before then, or BIS-HK is a “camel’s nose under the tent” to get influence/control over Chinese banks after the absorption.
