We're not the only ones noticing something "odd" about the alleged "coup" attempt in Russia... So is Pepe Escobar, and Joseph has some (very) high octane speculation about it:

What happens in Russia after The Longest Day?

It never, ever works to the opponents’ advantage when they play Chess with the Russians.

New battalion of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems goes on combat duty in Belarus – Military & Defense – TASS
On May 28, 2022 the Belarusian Defense Ministry announced the arrival of a new batch of S-400 surface-to-air missile systems in the republic, saying that Belarusian anti-aircraft gunners had undergone a full course of training at Russian practice ranges to learn how to operate the systems. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced in December 2022 that Russian-made S-400 and Iskander missile systems [the newer updated systems] had entered service with the republic’s army.

Belarus never to become Russia’s enemy — Lukashenko – World – TASS
2022 , 1-16 -The Belarusian president underscored the importance of preserving friendly and allied relations with Russia. “We will never be Russia’s enemy. And will never give Russia the cold shoulder. This is the closest country to us, our closest peoples,” he explained. “I think that while we are in power, we will adhere to this trend. Had it been otherwise, it would have been LIKE IN UKRAINE,” Lukashenko concluded.

I question whether Wagner is truly an independent, non-state actor. Officially, it’s a private company. Yet I assume that, de facto, it’s an operating arm of the Russian state — perhaps even a unit of crack troops loyal to Putin himself. My understanding is that Prigozhin and Putin are old friends/associates and that Prigozhin owes his fortune and position entirely to Putin. Maybe Putin trusts Prigozhin’s troops to remain loyal to him more than he would trust regular military troops? The latter would, presumably, be loyal to the military chain of command, which leads right back to Shoigu and Gerasimov.

Wagner’s private-company status is a convenient way to distance it from the Russian state and from Putin, if and when necessary. That status is also a way to get around any constraints that might apply to the military (regarding recruitment of prisoners, for example?).

If my high-octane speculation has any validity, then I could even imagine Putin using Prigozhin as a mouthpiece to criticize and weaken Shoigu and Gerasimov. The fact that Shoigu and Gerasimov are in the positions they’re in, and the fact that they’re still there, makes me think they have some pretty hefty influence of their own. It may be politically difficult for Putin to criticize them directly. If true, that would partly explain the strange “coup” attempt. Furthermore, Lukashenko (another ally of Putin’s as far as I know) suddenly appearing as the deus ex machina who saves the day has all the air of theater.

Putting all that together, my impression is that, far from being an attempted coup, this was more likely an operation contrived by Putin and two of his political allies. For what purpose(s) exactly, I couldn’t say. That the West may have been involved, and duped by Prigozhin, isn’t all that farfetched, though we’ll probably never know the truth.

I agree with most of Joseph’s speculations. Rumor has it, however, that Belarus is moving slowly, steadily, towards joining the Russian Federation. Being constitutionally part of Russia. This would nix the idea of ‘plausible deniability’ in the use of tactical nukes — however, Belarus might be playing the role of “the maid-in-waiting, never to be a bride” until the Ukraine situation is “resolved”. I do not see any disbanding of Wagner, nor of sending any part of “the world’s best combined-arms fighting force” (Col Macgregor’s words, not mine) to Africa, etc. I see a reconstituted Wagner, under a different corporate name, using Belarus as a launching pad for wherever Russia needs them. A common pattern in this whole ‘affair’, is that of LOYALTY. Lukashenko and Prigozhin with longstanding friendship and loyalty to Putin. Wagner (NOT a mercenary group) with “intense loyalties to Russia” — again, Col Macgregor’s words not mine. The altruistic idea of supporting each other in an anti-globalist cause greater than themselves. In that context, all of these humans, loyal to each other, are fighting on OUR behalf against globalist suck ups — the demon Collective West; the sons and daughters of Lucifer. AND perhaps the evil extraterrestrials they rode in on. Such a cliff hanger — truth SO much more interesting than fiction. Go Dr. Farrell (!!) GoBearsZ. Russia, the hope for the world (!) That’s why we care so much about this ‘coup that wasn’t’. I hope Putin will hang in there for another 20 years. We need him.

I would also like to see the song and dance routine …. “Springtime for H*tler and Germany” revived as a viral meme throughout social media. The ORIGINAL song from Mel Brooks’ The Producers, 1967. Time to mercilessly humiliate all those attending the upcoming NATO summit.

Exactly, Dr. Farrell. Prig is a chef and restaurateur, not a military commander, ACTOR, like most of the public figures we see today, and now Russia has 25k of the most seasoned, successful military, NORTH of Kiev. Big DUH. This is one big middle finger to the US “intelligence” and NATO, in general.

The West only ended up with mud on it’s face.

I wonder how much sway their military AI’s have?
The more trust put they put in the going AI metamorphosis, within the global electronic battlefields; the more real chances are, that things will go very wrong – very quickly, with no way out except… ?

I don’t think Russia would put their nukes in the hands of Wagner, or any other non state actor. Other commentators (see Andrei Martanyov “Reminiscences of the Future”) more closely attuned to the goings on inside Russia have debunked the notion of Wagner being moved and reassembled north of Kiev. They were disarmed and broken up. Pregozian left with only a few people. The bulk of Wagner will be assimilated into the Russian regular forces if they agree to sign new contracts. Both sides in this conflict have 24/7 surveillance of the battlefield. If the Russians wanted to,move troops, they’d simply move them! It’s no secret. In modern warfare, you can’t anymore assemble an invasion force stealthily, ala D-Day in WWII. Its mathematics, X vs Y. Whoever can bring the most force to bear upon the enemy – AND SUSTAIN IT WHILE SUPRESSING their opponent – will win.

Who controls the nuclear football in the USA?
Has Russia given partial control of its nuclear football to a private military?

A Russian legalized Blackwater perhaps nothing like taking a page from Western mercenary companies.or a real-life Mission Impossible team.
