Apropos of today's main blog, Mr. G.B. shared this intriguing article:

This is one of those periodic, ridiculously pie-in-the-sky discoveries that are put forth by a vast cadre of bought-and-paid-for science shills to make you think that cheap, reliable alternative energy (from LENRs for example) is not possible because these “seriously contemplated” alternatives are so complex, technologically advanced, and obviously impractical.

“Sure,” you are supposed to think after reading this, “all you need is a modified LHC and you can theoretically one day perhaps generate energy from it. Oh well,” you are supposed to conclude, “I guess we’re stuck with ‘fossil’ fuels and windmills.”

Hmm. My (decades-old) understanding of quarks is that it is impossible to have them individually separated-out. Almost by definition. Extremely cold matter can have quark ‘fluids’, and extremely dense matter like at the cores of neutron stars can produce quark ‘fluids’. But neither of these ‘states’ has individual quarks roaming free for ‘fusion’. Either the article is poorly written, or physics has moved-on since my last studies…

Guess what, “nukeelar” is now on the wat out (no reference to website member of that name!). Ah, and yes, “quark guns” might be 8 times more powerful that the H-bomb…
